The RUM-139 VL-ASROC (Vertical Launch Anti-Submarine Rocket) is an anti-submarine missile deployed by the United States Navy. The missile delivers an acoustic homing torpedo to a drop point near a hostile submarine, where the torpedo enters the water and seeks out its target. The VL-ASROC allows surface ships to engage submarines from much greater distances than conventional torpedo tubes.
